Mike Currie, P.Eng., FEC

Mike Currie, P.Eng., FEC, a Principal and Senior Water Resources Engineer with Kerr Wood Leidal, is an accomplished and broadly recognized water resources engineer with more than 40 years of experience.

Mike began his career in the public sector, before moving to Kerr Wood Leidal in 1989. Over the next 33 years he built a reputation for excellence in water resources planning, design, construction, and advisory with a focus on flood response, floodplain management, and flood-related geohazards. From 2006 to 2015 Mike served as President of the firm before returning to his first passion – technical practice.

Too many to name, Mike’s work benefits communities across the province. His work is invaluable in serving the public interest by enhancing safety and mitigating loss. At the height of flooding events following the 2021 atmospheric river, Mike was central to coordinating and leading emergency response for the Sumas Prairie, immediately followed by rapid development and assessment of flood mitigation options for the City of Abbotsford.

Mike’s extensive, sustained, and broad reaching professional service includes practice, policy, leadership, and mentoring through ACEC-BC, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, and the BC Water and Waste Association.

Members of ACEC-BC have long benefited from Mike’s contribution, particularly the grinding work of contract review and response that supports our Association to advocate for members with our clients. In 2021, Mike developed and continues to teach the contracts review workshop to participants in the ACEC-BC Leadership in Consulting Engineering Certificate program, demonstrating his passion for the industry and his commitment to building capacity for generations.
