Katie Au, P.Eng., PMP.

National Practice Leader, Engineering, BBA

As National Practice Leader for Engineering, Katie oversees the processes and tools the firm uses to practice engineering, as well as corporate permits. For clients, she specializes in protection and control and cybersecurity, and leads multidisciplinary projects. Despite this incredibly demanding technical practice, Katie finds space to build engagement and community through founding and leading EDI resource groups including BBA Consultants’s EDI committee, the Women in Engineering and Geoscience division of Engineers and Geoscientists BC, and as co-Chair of the ACEC-BC EDI Committee.

Katie’s passion for mentoring allows her to demonstrate that we can all let go of thought patterns that limit our progress and that with the right support, anyone can achieve. She lives these values through mentoring high school students through the Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology and newcomers to Canada through the Immigrant Employment Council of BC.

Appreciation for the richness of different cultures and experiences is fundamental to Katie’s leadership. She is a present and committed leader who inspires those around her to embrace diversity.

About the Award

In 2020, the ACEC-BC Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee worked with our Board to bring forward a new award recognizing the impact of member actions on advancing our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Committee proposed the Award to shine a light on the many ways members are working together to build a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive industry and to recognize the considerable effort needed to effect change.

The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award selection was made by a panel of members representing different business practices, which acknowledges that actions supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion are not the responsibility of any one person or group, and must be considered core to the business practice of every member firm.

Change can be difficult. Like building any technical skill, change needs time, clear intention, and deep commitment. Building a more diverse and inclusive industry is a journey, and our inaugural Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award recipients support us all through their leadership by example.
